Islamabad, 9 May, 2025: Hire Nurses Temporarily, The Government of Punjab has initiated a fresh round of contract-based hiring, this time targeting nursing professionals, following its earlier move to temporarily engage doctors for public sector healthcare support.
In a recent directive issued by the Department of Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education, authorities confirmed that nurses will be recruited on a locum basis to meet the growing demands across government hospitals.
The process will mirror the strategy employed for temporary medical officers, with the University of Health Sciences (UHS) appointed to supervise and manage the hiring procedure.
To streamline applications, the provincial health department has activated a dedicated digital platform where aspiring candidates can submit their credentials.

Only those holding a four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing or a Post-RN qualification will be considered eligible. Nurses already employed in public health institutions have been deemed ineligible for this temporary engagement.
Hire Nurses Temporarily will focus on filling urgent staffing gaps within Punjab’s major teaching hospitals.
Officials indicated that successful applicants will be deployed on short-term assignments and will be compensated through a fixed daily stipend.
The initiative aims to ease the burden on existing medical staff and enhance patient care during peak service demand.
It is part of a broader strategy by the provincial government to make healthcare delivery more responsive and flexible without long-term budgetary implications.
Sources within the health ministry revealed that the locum model offers a viable solution to address intermittent shortages of skilled personnel while maintaining standards of care.

As hospitals continue to face pressure from seasonal illnesses and rising patient numbers, this stopgap measure is expected to provide much-needed relief.
