Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC), in collaboration with UNICEF and a private university, inaugurated the Hudiara Drain Revitalization Project on Tuesday.
The project will see the installation of floating wetlands in a 500-meter stretch of Hudiara Drain at a cost of Rs. 14.6 million, using specific plants for natural water purification.
The ceremony was attended by Shakeel Ahmad Mian, Secretary Local Government & Community Development (LG&CD), Syed Zahid Aziz, MD PMDFC, along with representatives from UNICEF, EPA Punjab, and academia.

Secretary LG&CD said the initiative represents a modern, eco-friendly solution to eliminate foul odors and improve the environment. He added that an additional 500 meters will be covered in the next phase, with plans to eventually expand the project to 10 kilometers.
