Islamabad, 12 June 2025: A Tax-Free Budget will be presented in the Punjab Assembly on June 16, according to a formal announcement made by the provincial government.

Officials indicate that the fiscal plan, designed to ease financial pressure on citizens, reflects a broader commitment to economic relief and development-centered governance.

Information Minister Azma Bukhari revealed that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has categorically rejected proposals from several departments seeking the introduction of new taxes.

Her stance, Bukhari said, underscores a vision aimed at minimizing public burden and enhancing accessibility to state-backed services.

Despite ongoing challenges under the IMF program, both federal and provincial administrations are said to be prioritizing public welfare over austerity.

According to government sources, the upcoming Tax-Free Budget places a strong focus on social support measures, particularly for salaried workers, who are expected to receive targeted financial relief.

The proposed budget framework reportedly allocates substantial resources toward key sectors including education, healthcare, and community welfare. Officials emphasize that these areas will be central to Punjab’s development agenda over the coming fiscal year.

In a statement to the press, Bukhari added that considerable improvements have already been achieved in Punjab’s education sector, while sanitation infrastructure has been enhanced to historic levels. She highlighted Punjab’s accelerating growth and expressed hope that similar progress would be mirrored in other provinces.

Addressing broader tax concerns, Bukhari acknowledged the need for greater inclusion within the tax system. She argued that expanding the tax net is vital to ensuring fairness and reducing the financial load currently borne by a limited number of taxpayers.
