The Punjab War Book is being updated to address present-day security challenges. A key meeting at the Punjab Home Department, chaired by Secretary Home Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi, reviewed the emergency response plan that defines the role of different departments during war or critical emergencies.
According to the department’s spokesperson, the earlier War Book from 1981 is being revised to fit modern needs. In the session, officials were briefed about the duties of 33 departments in case of enemy aggression. Clear guidelines have been set for each institution to ensure quick coordination.
Discussions also focused on protecting vital installations, public safety, and countering threats such as drone strikes, cyber-attacks, and missile strikes. The proposal for building shelters and bunkers in major cities was also reviewed.
The meeting stressed uninterrupted supplies of food and medicines, keeping hospitals operational, countering false propaganda on social media, and ensuring authentic information reaches the public.

District-level control rooms are now active, while Civil Defense has been provided with modern resources. Intelligence committees at the district and divisional levels will get more powers, and Civil Defense has been tasked with marking potential shelter sites.
The meeting was attended by Additional IG Tariq Chauhan, Dr. Rizwan, Fazal-ur-Rehman, Colonel Shehzad Amir, and other senior officials. The spokesperson confirmed that the Punjab War Book is undergoing a complete update to meet current security requirements.
