The Punjab Assembly has recommended legislation to regulate children’s social media accounts.

In Tuesday’s session, legislators passed a resolution not only to ban the use of mobile phones in schools but also to propose measures regulating children’s access to social media platforms.

The use of social media by children has become a growing global concern, with many countries seeking to prevent minors from being exposed to harmful content online. Governments and technology companies worldwide are closely watching Australia’s attempt to become the first country to restrict social media access for teenagers.

Once Australia’s ban takes effect on December 10, anyone under the age of 16 will be barred from holding accounts on Facebook, Snapchat, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and X. More countries are expected to follow suit in the coming months amid rising concerns over unsupervised social media use by children.
