Islamabad, Apr 10, 2025: Wheat Farmers the backbone of Punjab’s agriculture sector are now set to benefit from a bold new policy initiative introduced by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
In a landmark decision aimed at reshaping the province’s agricultural framework, Punjab has officially adopted a wheat deregulation policy, marking a significant move towards a liberalized, market-driven system.
This transformation allows for free inter-provincial movement of wheat, enabling wheat farmers to connect with broader markets and obtain more competitive returns for their harvests.
Addressing the public on this reform, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated, “With the freedom to transport wheat beyond Punjab’s borders, wheat farmers can now receive fair compensation based on market demand.”

Punjab Deregulates Wheat Under New Market Policy
This initiative aims to eliminate unnecessary restrictions and give power back to the producers. Instead, private sector entities will now lead the process, increasing buyer competition and ensuring that farmers get the best possible rates.
Government officials have emphasized that this deregulation is part of a broader agricultural revival strategy, designed to boost both productivity and economic sustainability in rural areas.
As recognition of their efforts, the administration lauded Punjab’s farmers for achieving a historic high in wheat production this year.
To complement these reforms, the Punjab government has also distributed 1,000 tractors free of cost to deserving farmers, helping them reduce production expenses and improve land preparation.
These initiatives symbolize a shift in focus from traditional subsidies to tangible empowerment and autonomy for agricultural workers.
With this sweeping policy change, Punjab’s government is laying the groundwork for a more dynamic and self-reliant farming economy.
Wheat farmers, once heavily dependent on centralized procurement, now find themselves at the center of an open, competitive, and potentially more rewarding market system.
