Islamabad, 17 May, 2025: The Punjab Transport Department has decided to extend the Gujranwala Metro Bus route from Aimenabad Mor to Gakhar Mandi, with plans to potentially expand further to Kamoke.

Officials have been tasked with preparing a feasibility report for this Kamoke extension.

Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar announced this during a recent meeting aimed at reviewing the preparations for launching the metro bus service in Gujranwala.

The meeting was also attended by senior officials, including Transport Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch and Gujranwala Commissioner Naveed Haider Sheerazi.

A total of 1,009 buses will be assigned to cover both the main and feeder routes.

Minister Bilal Akbar explained that, as Gujranwala is a key industrial and commercial center in Punjab, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has given the green light to the project to address the increasing transport demands of the city’s residents.

Four depots will be set up along GT Road for parking buses, with locations already finalized.

Authorities are also evaluating the construction of underground bus terminals and the widening of GT Road where necessary.

The possibility of building flyovers along the route is under consideration as well.

Transport Secretary Baloch added that CM Maryam Nawaz has directed the operation of feeder buses between Lahore and Gujranwala. The entire project is expected to be completed within a year.
