Islamabad, Mar 17 2025: Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) Chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqoob has called for balanced investment across all sports instead of prioritizing cricket alone.
He pointed out that despite spending Rs 13 billion on improving cricket stadiums, the national team continues to underperform in major tournaments.
He emphasized that if even a small portion of this budget were allocated to more than 30 other sports, Pakistani athletes could achieve success in global events such as the Olympics, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games.
However, he expressed disappointment that government support and sponsorships remain largely limited to cricket, leaving other sports struggling for financial backing.
Drawing a comparison with India, Yaqoob noted that the Indian government has successfully engaged corporate sponsors for multiple sports, leading to significant progress.
Meanwhile, in Pakistan, many talented athletes face obstacles due to a lack of funding and sponsorship opportunities.
Speaking about volleyball’s success, he highlighted Pakistan’s consistent victories and the regular organization of tournaments at both provincial and national levels.
He further announced that following a successful event in Lahore, the National Volleyball Championship will take place from April 4 to 10 in Wah Cantt.
Teams from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and various departments—including Army, WAPDA, Railways, Police, Air Force, and Navy—will participate. The matches will be broadcast live.
Yaqoob clarified that he does not oppose cricket but urged policymakers and sponsors to extend their support to all sports.
He stressed that ensuring equal investment would allow Pakistan’s athletes to shine on international platforms.
