Islamabad, June 28, 2025:  Qatar has urged Israel and Hamas to seize a “golden opportunity” for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages, noting that a new atmosphere has emerged following a de-escalation between Iran and Israel.

According to a global news agency, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majed Al-Ansari, stated that Qatar remains actively engaged in mediation efforts between Israel and Hamas.

He further added that a “positive atmosphere” has been created since the ceasefire (or de-escalation of tensions) between Iran and Israel, which could lead to progress on the release of Israeli hostages and a broader ceasefire in Gaza.

The Qatari spokesperson cautioned news agency AFP that if this opportunity is not seized, “it will be one of many opportunities that have been lost in the recent past.” He reiterated that Qatar does not want another “rare opportunity” to be wasted, as it could pave the way for peace in the region.

Israeli media outlets have also claimed that due to Qatar’s persistent efforts, the issue has once again returned to the negotiation table, with hopes for progress in the coming days.

It is noteworthy that Hamas launched an attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in approximately 1500 deaths and 251 people being taken hostage. Dozens of these hostages are reportedly still alive, while the bodies of several others remain with Hamas, with many believed to have been killed in Israeli bombardments.
