Famous singer Quratulain Balouch, who recently survived a rare brown bear attack in Deosai National Park, has been discharged from the Regional Headquarters Hospital in Skardu after receiving treatment.

Doctors confirmed that her X-rays showed no fractures. She was also given tetanus and rabies shots as a precaution.

Speaking to Bloom Pakistan, District Forest Officer (DFO) Skardu, Sajjad Ahmad Khan, said that it is extremely rare for a brown bear to attack humans. “This is the peak season when brown bears roam around in their natural habitat. Once the snowfall begins, they go into deep sleep/hibernation for the winter,” he explained.

Khan added that the wildlife department’s rescue team quickly shifted Quratulain Balouch to the hospital after the incident. At the time of the attack, she was alone in her camp near Bada Pani in Deosai, while her cameraman and driver were in another camp. “Brown bears have a very strong sense of smell, so it’s possible that cooking at the camp attracted the animal,” he suggested.

He also confirmed that there was only a single brown bear in the incidents and his paws landed on her arms leaving minor injuries. He further said that both the wildlife team and hospital staff remained on high alert until her safe recovery. “Thankfully, her tests came out clear, and she is now out of danger,” he added.

Given the current season of high bear activity, the authorities have imposed a 20-day ban on camping in Deosai to ensure visitor safety.
