Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif will inaugurate a new electric public bus service in Rawalpindi on October 15, introducing a modern, affordable, and environment-friendly transport system for city residents.
President of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Rawalpindi Division, Malik Abrar Ahmad, said a total of 87 air-conditioned electric buses would be deployed across four routes in phases.
In the first phase, he added, the service will operate on the route from Rawat to Motorway Chowk, offering citizens a comfortable and reliable commuting option.
Malik Abrar, who also serves as Chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on the Cabinet Secretariat, said the fare has been set at an affordable Rs. 20 per ride, while students and senior citizens aged 60 and above will be entitled to free travel.

He said the new bus service aims to provide a dignified and efficient mode of public transport while helping to reduce traffic congestion in the city.
The Member of the National Assembly from Rawalpindi noted that residents of the garrison city are eagerly awaiting the Punjab chief minister’s visit, describing the launch as a landmark public welfare initiative designed to ease daily commuting challenges and extend modern transport facilities to all segments of society.
