Islamabad, June 28, 2025: The Punjab administration has begun efforts to turn the Mall road into a signal-free corridor between Katcheri Chowk and Motorway Chowk in Rawalpindi, instructing the Housing and Urban Development Department to began area assessment.

A senior official from the department stated that the initiative would be carried out in stages to prevent interference with routine public travel. The detailed blueprint features the development of four underpasses and two flyovers.

Initially, work on the Katcheri Chowk Underpass will start once the current GPO Underpass construction on The Mall wraps up. The Katcheri Chowk initiative, which includes the underpass and road expansion, has been estimated to cost Rs. 4.450 billion, with Rs. 160 million allocated in the upcoming budget year starting July 1.

Further development involves the Rs. 2.6 billion Race Course Underpass, the Rs. 1.5 billion Chairing Cross Underpass (with Rs. 54 million set aside this year), and the Rs. 1.9 billion Army Graveyard Chowk Underpass (with Rs. 68 million allocated).

The flyovers feature the Rs. 4.150 billion Jinnah Park Flyover (with Rs. 149 million assigned) and the Rs. 3.450 billion Ammar Chowk Flyover (with Rs. 124 million designated). The official added that experts would be appointed for feasibility evaluations and PC-I formulation before initiating the construction.
