Islamabad, July 2, 2025: The Nawaz Sharif Flyover at Khawaja Corporation Chowk on Adiala Road has officially opened for public use, easing traffic congestion in Rawalpindi, even before its scheduled inauguration by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

Built at a cost of Rs. 2.3 billion, the flyover is a major component of Rawalpindi’s urban uplift plan. This large-scale infrastructure project also includes two underpasses and a pedestrian underpass on Mall Road, collectively worth Rs. 4.38 billion. While the flyover is now operational, the underpasses remain sealed, awaiting a new inauguration date to be set by the CM.

Despite the delay in the formal opening ceremony, the Punjab Communication and Works Department has ensured that construction work on all structures is complete. Just like the early opening of the Nawaz Sharif Flyover, the remaining underpasses will be made accessible immediately after CM Maryam Nawaz’s visit.

In parallel, authorities are preparing for the next phase of Rawalpindi’s road infrastructure expansion, which includes planned underpasses at Qasim Market, Race Course, and Chairing Cross on Peshawar Road. Additionally, a mega proposal for two flyovers and three underpasses at Kachehri Chowk is under government review. However, no official date has been confirmed for the project’s launch.
