Nanbai association in Rawalpindi has announced closure of all tandoors from November5, across the city. The decision has been taken due to rising costs and Government actions taken against them.
Representatives of the association said Administration has sealed several tandoors depriving them of their livelihoods while many bakers are facing police cases.
The association stated that despite repeated appeals, the government has failed to provide quality wheat flour at affordable prices.
The price of flour has doubled in the past two months, yet the government has not offered any subsidy to help tandoor owners keep prices stable.

They added that the shortage of natural gas has worsened the situation, forcing many tandoors to operate on expensive LPG cylinders. This, they said, has made it impossible to maintain business without losses.
The Nanbai Association has urged the government to take immediate steps to stabilize flour prices, restore gas supply, and stop what they called the “harassment” of tandoor owners.
The call of closure of tandoors in Rawalpindi will continue till the demands are not meet by local administration. this can lead to bread shortage in the city.
