Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is expected to lead the opening ceremony of both the projects. Initially scheduled for inauguration on Tuesday (today), the event was delayed due to the Chief Minister’s prior commitments in Lahore.

Authorities have now confirmed that both the flyover and underpass will be opened on the same day after Eid holidays.

Nawaz Sharif Flyover, constructed at Khawaja Corporation Chowk on Adiala Road, was launched in January with a budget allocation of over Rs. 2 billion. As per the details shared by media platforms, the structure spans 1,915 feet in length and 52 feet in width, with a height of 16.75 feet. It has been designed to alleviate severe traffic bottlenecks in the area. Once operational, this flyover is expected to serve approximately 79,000 vehicles each day.

Work on the GPO Double Barrel Underpass along The Mall is nearing its final stages. This underpass stretches over one kilometer from TM Chowk near General Headquarters (GHQ) to the Military Hospital and is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 4.6 billion.

This underpass is a key component of the Punjab government’s initiative to transform The Mall into a signal-free corridor. The provincial government has said that it is aimed at easing long-standing traffic congestion in the city’s central zone. Once completed, it is projected to handle daily traffic volumes of around 250,000 vehicles.
