Islamabad, Jan 25: In a decisive move to uphold urban planning laws, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) sealed 10 plazas and 5 houses on Morgah Road, Gulshan Abad, and Dhamyal Kalyal Road on Friday. The action came in response to violations of building plans and zoning regulations, which the owners had repeatedly disregarded despite multiple notices.
According to an official press release, the owners of the affected properties had breached approved building plans and illegally converted their buildings into residential-cum-commercial establishments without obtaining the necessary No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) or proper approvals. These actions directly violated the Punjab Development of Cities Act 1976 and the RDA Building and Zoning Regulations 2020, which govern construction and land use within the city.

Despite receiving several notices from the RDA regarding these illegal constructions, the property owners failed to comply with the authorities’ directives, leading to the enforcement of this stringent action.
In response to these violations, Director General Kinza Murtaza of the RDA has instructed the Land Use and Building Control (LU&BC) Wing to take more stringent measures against encroachments, unauthorized constructions, and unlawful commercial activities. Murtaza has also directed the Building Control Wing to review and impose charges for the approval of illegal residential and commercial buildings, with an emphasis on regularizing such structures within the RDA’s jurisdiction.
Murtaza reaffirmed the RDA’s commitment to upholding the city’s planning and zoning laws to ensure systematic urban development. The authority aims to promote a well-organized urban landscape by eliminating illegal and non-compliant structures, thereby safeguarding the integrity of Rawalpindi’s development plans. The sealing of these properties marks a significant step in maintaining lawful and sustainable urban growth within the region.
