Islamabad, Dec 2: The Rawalpindi Ring Road project will now be managed by the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) after the closure of the Project Management Unit (PMU). Effective December 2, the RDA will take full responsibility for overseeing the project.
Key Details:
- PMU Closure: Officials from the PMU, which was established in 2019 under the caretaker government, resigned, and all related records have been transferred.
- RDA Management: The decision was made to transfer the project to the RDA to avoid additional costs associated with PMU operations and salaries.
- RDA’s Plan: The RDA Director General Kinza Murtaza confirmed that the authority’s engineering and financial departments will handle the project. Payments will continue as soon as funds are available, and contractor work will be closely monitored.
- Completion Timeline: The project is expected to be completed by September 2025, though the deadline could be extended based on progress.
The Punjab government has instructed to maintain high-quality standards and ensure that the project adheres to its timeline. Regular inspections will be carried out to monitor progress.
