Islamabad, Aug 15, 2025: Murree tourist vehicles surged past 53,000 on Independence Day, far exceeding the hill station’s 5,000-vehicle parking capacity, according to City Traffic Police. The influx continued into Thursday, with traffic police taking extra measures to facilitate visitors.
Over 200 traffic personnel were deployed to manage the heavy flow. While 53,000 vehicles entered, many left during the day, keeping 6,000–9,000 cars in town at a given time. Entry to Mall Road without family was restricted, and motorcyclists without helmets were stopped at checkpoints. Driving licences were checked to ensure safety, and awareness pamphlets were handed out.
CTO Waseem Akhtar and Traffic Officer Murree Sohail Shahzad supervised traffic operations. All main roads remained open, though pedestrian rush at GPO Chowk caused brief congestion. Tourists were urged to park in designated areas, avoid double lanes, and refrain from illegal parking.
