Islamabad, July 15, 2025: The Sindh government has officially extended the deadline for installing Ajrak-themed number plates across the province, giving vehicle owners until August 14 to comply without facing penalties. This announcement came from Provincial Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla during a press briefing in Karachi.

Chawla clarified that no fines will be issued to vehicles that haven’t yet adopted the official Ajrak number plates within the new grace period. However, he added that standard traffic violations—such as riding without a helmet or lacking valid documentation—will still be fined.

“Ajrak is a proud symbol of Sindh’s rich cultural heritage and will remain a permanent part of the new number plate design,” said Chawla.

The decision follows mixed reactions from the public, with some raising questions about the plate’s design and legal standing. The government, however, maintains that the Ajrak plates are mandatory and embedded with security features as part of the Safe City project.

Officials emphasized that the initiative is more than symbolic. The new plates are being issued for all vehicle categories to enhance both road security and cultural representation. The Sindh Excise Department urges citizens to complete the plate replacement process before the August 14 deadline to avoid last-minute rush and fines.

Despite criticism, the government remains firm in its stance. “The extension offers relief, but compliance is essential. These plates are not optional,” Chawla concluded.
