Islamabad, July 4, 2025: At least four individuals lost their lives and eight others injuried on Friday after a five-storey residential building falls in Karachi Lyari area, specifically in the Baghdadi neighbourhood. A rescue operation is ongoing as rescue teams are trying to save trapped residents under the rubble.
Rescue workers reported that four deceased persons and six injured individuals were retrieved from the wreckage. Among those rescued were three women, who have been so far shifted to the hospital for treatment.
The Deputy Commissioner South stated that efforts are ongoing to safely rescue those stuck under the rubble and confirmed that six families were residing in the building at the time of the collapse. This suggested that around 25 to 30 individuals might still be trapped.

Two neighbouring buildings have been vacated as a precautionary measure.
Sources from the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) revealed that the building was around 30 years old and was in a deteriorated state. Moreover, it had been marked as hazardous a long time ago.
They added that various warnings were issued, directing residents to vacate the property. However, locals claimed that they had not been served any such warnings by the authorities.

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori expressed his concern over the disaster, emphasising that every available resource must be employed for rescue operations. He instructed that all injured individuals receive immediate treatment and necessary medical support, warning that any negligence or carelessness would not be tolerated.
A high-powered committee has been constituted to probe the building’s collapse in Lyari, according to a spokesperson from the Sindh Local Government Department.
