Islamabad, Jan 9:Pakistan’s cricket team has encountered a setback ahead of their upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies, scheduled to commence on January 17, 2025, at the Multan Cricket Stadium.1-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Haseebullah Khan has been ruled out of the series due to a hand injury sustained during practice. The injury, which required stitches, occurred when he was struck on the hand by the ball.

A Rising Star’s Setback

Haseebullah Khan, a promising talent from Quetta, had been gaining recognition for his performances in limited-overs cricket. He made his T20I debut on January 21, 2024, opening the batting under the leadership of Shaheen Shah Afridi during Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand.Later, he made his ODI debut on November 24, 2024, in Bulawayo against Zimbabwe, with Mohammad Rizwan leading the side.Despite limited opportunities, his inclusion in the squad signaled Pakistan’s commitment to nurturing young talent for the future.

Haseebullah was poised to serve as the backup wicketkeeper to Mohammad Rizwan for the Test series against the West Indies. His injury necessitates a reassessment of the team’s strategy, as the squad will now rely solely on Rizwan for wicketkeeping duties. This development underscores the challenges of managing player availability and the importance of having contingency plans in place.

West Indies’ Historic Return

The West Indies cricket team has arrived in Pakistan for their first Test series since 2006.The tour includes two Tests at the Multan Cricket Stadium, with the first match scheduled from January 16 to 20, 2025.Prior to the Test series, the West Indies will play a three-day practice match against the Pakistan Shaheens starting January 10.This series marks a significant moment in cricketing history, as the West Indies return to Pakistan for the first time in 18 years.

Looking Ahead

Despite the setback with Haseebullah Khan’s injury, Pakistan’s cricket team remains focused on the upcoming Test series against the West Indies. The squad will aim to build on their recent performances and continue their development as a competitive force in international cricket. The series against the West Indies presents an opportunity for the team to showcase their talent and resilience on home soil.
