Islamabad, Aug 3: According to the Federal Flood Commission (FFC), all of the major rivers in the Indus River System Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej are releasing their normal flows, with the exception of the River Indus, which is now experiencing “Low Flood” conditions at Guddu Barrage and “Medium Flood” conditions at Kotri Barrage.
Tarbela Reservoir has been maintained its Maximum Conservation Level (MCL) of 1550.00 feet since August 19, 2024, according to the daily FFC report on Tuesday. At 1224.20 feet, the Mangla Reservoir’s water level is rising slowly and is only 17.80 feet below its mean constant level of 1242 feet. Tarbela, Chashma, and Mangla, the three main reservoirs in the nation, have a combined live storage capacity of 11.962 MAF, or 89.58% of the total live storage capacity of 13.354 MAF.
The well-marked low that was previously over South-Western Chhattisgarh (India) has moved westward and is currently over West Madhya Pradesh (India), according to the Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), Lahore. While a seasonal low is located over Northwestern Balochistan, the westerly wave trough that was formerly over Northeastern Afghanistan has relocated to Northern Pakistan. There were moderately wet currents coming up from the Bay of Bengal into Pakistan’s upper regions.
The following day, FFD Lahore has forecasted scattered thunderstorm rain of moderate intensity with isolated heavy falls over Islamabad, Sindh (Mirpur Khas, Larkana & Sukkur Divisions), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu & D.I.Khan Divisions), Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, D.G.Khan, Multan & Bahawalpur Divisions), and Balochistan (Zhob, Loralai, Nasirabad, Kalat & Sibbi Divisions), encompassing the top catchments of all significant IRS rivers. In the following 48 hours, monsoon activity is predicted to decline.
