Islamabad, Aug 227: The Federal Flood Commission (FFC), all of the major rivers of the Indus River System, including the River Indus in the Tarbela-Taunsa reach, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej, are discharging normal flows, with the exception of the River Indus, which is flowing in “Medium Flood” in the Sukkur-Kotri reach and in “Low Flood” at Guddu Barrage.
Tarbela Reservoir has maintained its Maximum Conservation Level (MCL) of 1550 feet for the past nine days, according to the daily FFC report on Tuesday. Mangla Reservoir, on the other hand, is currently 25 feet below its MCL of 1242 feet, at an elevation of 1217 feet.The depression that was present yesterday over Southeast Rajasthan, India, has grown into a deep depression, moved south-southwest, and is currently over North Gujarat, India, according to the Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), Lahore.
On August 30, 2024, a second area of low pressure above Jharkhand, India, is predicted to affect central Pakistan. While a seasonal low is located over north-western Balochistan, a westerly wave trough is still present across northeastern Afghanistan.
Strong moist currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal were penetrating Southern Sindh and its surrounding territories up to 10,000 feet, while light to moderate moist currents from the Bay of Bengal were reaching the upper catchments of all important rivers.Over the course of the next 72 hours, FFD, Lahore has forecast scattered thunderstorm rain with moderate intensity and isolated heavy falls over Islamabad, Punjab (including the upper catchments of all important rivers in the IRS), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the divisions of Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, and Sahiwal.
Widespread thunderstorms with heavy to very heavy rain and sporadic extremely heavy falls are possible over Balochistan (Zhob, Loralai, Sibbi, Nasirabad, Kalat & Makran Divisions), Sindh, and Southern Punjab (D.G. Khan, Multan & Bahawalpur Divisions) throughout the same period.
