India’s skipper Rohit Sharma played a match-winning innings, guiding India to a 24-run victory over Australia and securing their place in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2024.
Rohit’s explosive 41-ball 92, which included a record 8 sixes, powered India to a formidable total of 205/5. Despite strong resistance from Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head, who scored briskly for Australia, India’s bowlers led by Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh ensured their victory by restricting Australia to 181/7.
Reflecting on the match, Rohit expressed satisfaction with how India adapted to the conditions at the Daren Sammy Stadium in St Lucia. “It was satisfying. We knew the threat Australia posed, but as a team, we stuck to our plans and executed well,” Rohit remarked during the post-match presentation.
He praised Kuldeep Yadav’s economical bowling on a batting-friendly pitch and explained his strategic absence in New York due to different pitch conditions there.
Looking forward to the semi-finals against defending champions England, Rohit emphasized the importance of maintaining their natural game without overthinking the opposition.
“We’ll approach the match the same way we’ve been playing. It’s about executing our plans and focusing on our strengths,” he concluded confidently.
