Islamabad, Aug 6, 2025: In a transformative step for the Diamer district, Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan inaugurated the Tangir-Darel Expressway, a long-awaited infrastructure initiative aimed at uplifting the remote and disaster-prone valleys of Tangir and Darel. Valued at Rs. 10 billion, the project is financed through the federal Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).
Stretching 82 kilometers, the expressway will serve as a lifeline for communities often isolated by harsh weather, landslides, and flooding. The road, divided into two major sections—Tangir and Darel—has already seen significant progress, with 23% of construction completed ahead of its official start in August 2025. The entire project is targeted for completion by November 2027.
While addressing the crowd in Tangir Valley, CM Gulbar Khan emphasized the strategic importance of the project, calling it a “historic milestone for the region.” He added, “This road symbolizes more than connectivity—it represents hope, progress, and long-overdue access to essential services.”
The Tangir-Darel Expressway gains added urgency as climate-driven disasters continue to disrupt existing routes such as the Karakoram Highway and Babusar Pass. Once operational, the expressway will provide a dependable alternative for both trade and emergency movement.
