Islamabad, 13 May, 2025: Manchester United’s 3-0 home defeat to West Ham on Sunday marked a new low in what is now officially their worst Premier League season in history.
The loss left the once-dominant club just two spots above the relegation zone, with only two matches remaining.
With 39 points from 36 games, even maximum points from their final two fixtures would see United finish no higher than 13th—five places below their previous worst finish of eighth in the 2023/24 season.
The defeat also equalled their highest number of league losses in a single campaign since 1962/63.

Head coach Ruben Amorim, who took charge after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, has admitted he feels embarrassed.
He reportedly told club staff that United were losing the sense of urgency and pride once associated with being a “massive club.”
Amorim, who brought instant results at Braga and Sporting CP in previous roles, has seen a sharp decline in United’s form.
Since his arrival, United’s points-per-game average has dropped further. They have now gone more than two months without a league win, last tasting victory against Leicester on March 16.

United’s struggles are clear at both ends of the pitch. They have failed to score in 14 league games this season and conceded the first goal at Old Trafford 12 times—the most in a single Premier League season.
With just 30 goals under Amorim’s watch in 25 league games, their attacking record now ranks among the worst in the division.
Despite creating quality chances—reflected in an expected goals (xG) tally far higher than actual goals scored—the team continues to underperform.
In Sunday’s match, they generated an xG of 2.23 but failed to score even once.
United now face a painful reality: unless dramatic change arrives, their downward spiral could continue well into next season.
