Islamabad, Feb 28: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee convened in Peshawar on Friday, February 28, to determine the sighting of the Ramadan crescent moon, but due to unfavorable weather conditions across the country, no credible testimonies were received. After thorough consultations, the committee officially announced that the moon had not been sighted, and the first fast of Ramadan will be observed on March 2.

The meeting was chaired by Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad and attended by representatives from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), and the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO). Zonal committee members from Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, and Quetta also participated in the deliberations.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, holds profound religious significance for Muslims worldwide. It is a time of fasting, prayer, and self-reflection, during which Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, and engaging in negative behaviors from dawn until sunset. The month encourages acts of worship, including offering prayers, reciting the Quran, and engaging in charitable deeds.

With the official announcement, preparations for Ramadan 2025 are set to begin across Pakistan, as millions of Muslims gear up for a month of spiritual devotion and community solidarity.
