Islamabad, 29 May 2025: The Pakistani rupee Gains showed a marginal increase in value against the US dollar on Thursday, finishing the session on a stronger note.
According to interbank figures, the rupee remained steady within the 282–283 range for most of the day, before concluding trading at 282.16 against the greenback, marking a modest gain of 10 paisas or 0.04 percent on a day-on-day basis.
In the open market, currency counters reported slightly elevated levels, with rates hovering between 283 and 284 per US dollar.
Market watchers noted that despite intraday fluctuations, the rupee held firm throughout, bolstered by consistent demand-supply dynamics and positive sentiment.
The Rupee Gains observed against the dollar were echoed across several other global currencies, reinforcing confidence in the local currency’s resilience.
Gains Recorded Across Multiple Currencies
Beyond the dollar, the rupee made incremental advances against several key foreign currencies. Against the UAE Dirham (AED), the rupee appreciated by two paisas, while it strengthened by three paisas versus the Saudi Riyal (SAR).
More significant movements were noted against Western currencies. The rupee surged by Rs. 2.06 against the Euro (EUR) and improved by Rs. 2.01 when measured against the British Pound (GBP).
In the Commonwealth bracket, the local currency gained 93 paisas against the Canadian Dollar (CAD) and improved by 19 paisas against the Australian Dollar (AUD), reflecting a broader trend of appreciation.
Yearly Outlook Still in the Red
Despite Thursday’s uptick, the rupee has depreciated by 1.33 percent against the US dollar since the beginning of the fiscal year.
Analysts believe that while Rupee Gains like today’s offer some relief, the overall trajectory will depend on factors including import pressures, external financing, and macroeconomic reforms.
Currency experts suggest that if current levels hold, the rupee could consolidate further in the short term, especially amid improved foreign exchange reserves and remittance flows.
