Islamabad, July 23, 2025: A passenger plane with 49 people on board has gone down in Russia far eastern region, killing everyone on board, as per early local media reports.

The An-24 aircraft which belonged to Angara airline based in Siberia was heading toward the town of Tynda in the Amur region near the Chinese border. The Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergencies confirmed on Thursday that the plane vanished from radar during its landing approach.

Russian news agency Interfax said wreckage and flames from the plane were discovered in the Amur region. Rescuers said the plane’s body was found burning, spotted by a Mi-8 helicopter operated by Rosaviatsiya, the civil aviation body.

TASS, another news outlet, suggested the crew may have made a mistake while landing in poor visibility.

Russia’s remote areas like the far east and Arctic face rough weather, making flights risky. While overall safety in Russian aviation has improved, accidents involving old planes in isolated parts still happen.
