Islamabad, June 10, 2025: Surprisingly, Neil Patrick Harris is stepping into the shoes of Deadpool — but before fans panic, no, he’s not taking over in a live-action film. Instead, Harris lends his voice to the Merc With a Mouth in the upcoming Deadpool VR video game.

While Ryan Reynolds is practically inseparable from the character in the eyes of most fans, this time it’s Harris who gets to wear the (virtual) red suit.

In a light-hearted response to the casting and, naturally, to promote the game Reynolds shared a short video reacting to Harris taking on the role. The bit is a playful nod to Doogie Howser, M.D., the classic TV show from the late ‘80s and early ‘90s that made Harris a household name. In that series, he played a teenage genius who became the country’s youngest practicing doctor. Whether today’s gaming audience catches the reference is another story, but the throwback is clever.

The game’s red-band trailer, which features Harris voicing Deadpool, also shows off more in-game action. Players get a glimpse of what’s in store with a mix of humor, chaos, and classic Marvel cameos.

Titled Marvel’s Deadpool VR, the game tells a brand-new tale. Deadpool gets sucked through a portal to Mojoworld, where he smells an opportunity to make some serious cash. Without bothering to read the fine print, he signs a shady agreement and is thrown into a wild ride through various Marvel settings, battling both famous and obscure enemies. Think “multiverse,” but strictly in the Marvel Comics sense.

The game will launch on Meta Quest 3 sometime in late 2025. More details are expected soon.
