Islamabad, 31 May 2025: In a disturbing case of medical negligence, doctors at a private Sadiqabad hospital in Rahim Yar Khan district, performed unnecessary appendix removal surgeries on dozens of children.

The incident happened in Tallo Bangla Chak 212, where the medical staff of Toheed Medical Complex on Kacha Shahi Road carried out appendectomies on many children who were suffering from abdominal pain.

Following an inquiry report that revealed serious negligence, unethical and inappropriate surgical interventions, authorities sealed the Toheed Medical Complex. The investigation comes after the case gained widespread attention on social media.

An official inquiry, conducted by a three-member committee, found no evidence of an infectious disease outbreak in the area. The report confirmed that out of 28 children examined at Toheed Medical Complex, 22 underwent appendectomy surgeries.

“All 24 examined children were found to be medically stable and oriented to time and place,” the report added.

The committee also inspected Toheed Medical Complex and found multiple violations.

According to the report, the Sadiqabad hospital did not have a Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) License, the operation theatre was inadequate for the surgeries and no OT Swabs were sent for Culture, a crucial step for infection control.

“The condition of cleanliness and segregation were poor”, the report said.

Based on these findings, the inquiry committee concluded that unethical and inappropriate surgeries had been performed on these 22 children.

The case has been further referred to the Punjab Healthcare Commission for investigation and to hold those responsible accountable under the Punjab Healthcare Commission Act.
