Islamabad, Jan 10: Pakistan’s left-handed batter, Saim Ayub, sustained an ankle injury during the second Test against South Africa. After consulting with orthopedic specialists in London, it has been confirmed that while the injury is serious, there is no long-term damage. However, Ayub has been advised to undergo a six-month rest period to ensure full recovery.
This extended rehabilitation timeline makes his participation in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 highly unlikely. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had initially considered including him in the provisional squad, pending medical evaluations. However, given the latest medical advice, selectors are now exploring alternative options to fill his position in the squad.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has emphasized the board’s commitment to providing Ayub with the best possible care, acknowledging him as a valuable asset to Pakistan cricket. Ayub remains optimistic about his recovery and is determined to return to the field stronger.
