Islamabad, Feb 15: Samsung has officially confirmed that it is developing a tri-fold smartphone, set to launch in Q3 2025 alongside the highly anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. While the company has yet to reveal official details, industry expert Ross Young has provided insights into its potential design and display features.

Bigger Cover Display and an Innovative Folding Mechanism

Reports suggest that Samsung’s tri-fold device will feature a 6.49-inch cover display, matching the size of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7. This marks a shift from previous narrower cover screens, making the outer display more functional and user-friendly.

Unlike Huawei’s Mate XT, which uses an S- or Z-shaped fold, Samsung is expected to adopt a G-style folding mechanism. This means both sides of the display will fold inward, offering better protection against scratches and external damage. Additionally, Samsung is reportedly working on an advanced protective film to enhance durability and longevity.

However, due to complex manufacturing challenges, production is expected to be limited, making this device an ultra-premium offering rather than a mainstream foldable.

Premium Pricing Expected

Given the high-end nature of foldable smartphones, Samsung’s tri-fold is expected to come with a steep price tag. For reference, Huawei’s Mate XT launched at $2,800, and Samsung’s version will likely fall within a similar price range. This pricing strategy positions it as one of the most expensive foldables on the market.

Galaxy Z Fold 7: Slimmer Design with S Pen Trade-Offs?

A recent Korean media report indicates that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be Samsung’s slimmest foldable yet, even thinner than the Z Fold Special Edition (which measures 4.9mm when unfolded). However, this slim profile may come at a cost—some S Pen features could be removed due to space constraints.

Since the Z Fold 5 and Z Fold 6 already lack Bluetooth support for the S Pen, Samsung may further reduce functionality on the Z Fold 7. This aligns with the company’s approach to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which also features an S Pen without Bluetooth to maintain a sleeker design.

While Samsung has not confirmed these details, leaks and industry reports suggest major design improvements are on the way. With Q3 2025 approaching, more updates are expected soon.
