Islamabad, Sep 30: Sanath Jayasuriya full-time head coach Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka Cricket has officially appointed Sanath Jayasuriya as the permanent head coach of the national men’s team.
This decision follows a series of impressive performances by the team under Jayasuriya’s interim leadership, which began in July after the resignations of former head coach Chris Silverwood and consultant coach Mahela Jayawardene.
Both coaches stepped down following Sri Lanka’s disappointing showing in the T20 World Cup earlier this year.
Jayasuriya, a legendary figure in Sri Lankan cricket, has revitalized the team, leading them to a 2-0 victory in an ODI series against India in August and securing a notable Test win against England at The Oval.
The team also achieved a historic first Test victory against New Zealand in the ongoing series, with further success on the horizon.
Former Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews commended Jayasuriya, stating, “Sanath Jayasuriya has given us confidence and has done a wonderful job grooming young players. His influence has made a massive difference.”
Jayasuriya’s appointment is viewed as a strategic move to maintain momentum and continue developing a promising squad.
