Riyadh, July 20, 2025: Prince al Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal, the Saudi ‘Sleeping Prince’, died at the age of 35 after spending more than 20 years in a coma.

A member of the famed al-Saud royal family, the ‘Sleeping Prince’ was the son of Prince Khaled bin Talal and the nephew of the business tycoon Prince Alwaleed bin Talal.

In 2005, while studying as a military cadet in London, Prince al Waleed was involved in a serious car accident that left him with severe brain injuries. He was 15 at the time.

The soon-to-be ‘Sleeping Prince’ was treated by medical professionals in several countries. Sadly, he did not regain full consciousness and remained comatose for the rest of his life.

His family shared updates over the year, including rare occasions when he appeared to make small physical movements.

Throughout his coma, his father publicly declined to withdraw life support, citing personal convictions.

News of his death was announced by his family. Funeral proceedings are scheduled to take place in Riyadh at the Iman Turki bin Abdullah Mosque following afternoon prayers.

Social media users in Saudi Arabia and the region shared condolences and comments about his long-term medical condition and his family’s role in his care.
