The civil administration on Wednesday (today) has announced schools closure in Punjab after heavy rains triggered flooding in several districts. The move aims to protect students and staff as water levels in major rivers continue to rise.
According to officials, all public and private schools in Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Sargodha, Kot Momin and Pasrur will stay shut from August 27, 2025, until further review.
In a notification, Deputy Commissioner Sialkot Saba Asghar Ali stated that schools including primary, middle, high, and higher secondary levels will stay closed due to the worsening flood situation. She added that the safety of students, teachers and staff is the top priority and all academic as well as co-curricular activities must be suspended during this period.

Authorities have also declared a public holiday in Sialkot and Gujrat today as water levels in rivers continue to rise. Citizens have been advised to remain indoors, avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from rivers and streams due to the flood risk.
Officials said the situation will be monitored and Punjab schools will reopen once conditions improve.
