Islamabad, Apr 2, 2025: In a landmark diplomatic achievement, Chairman Senate of Pakistan, His Excellency Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, has been appointed as the Founding Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC).
This Seoul-based global forum aims to enhance parliamentary dialogue, promote sustainable development, and foster international cooperation on critical issues such as climate change, renewable energy, and water scarcity.
The decision was made during Chairman Gilani’s recent visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he attended an exclusive briefing session on the forthcoming ISC Summit in Seoul, Korea.
His appointment is a testament to Pakistan’s growing influence in global parliamentary diplomacy.
A formal ceremony to recognize this milestone will be held at the World Summit 2025 in Seoul, organized by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF). The event will be attended by 500 representatives and 45 parliamentary speakers from 150 countries.
Acknowledging his visionary leadership, Chairman Gilani was honored with an award lauding his efforts to bridge legislative bodies and promote global peace, prosperity, and democracy.
His appointment strengthens Pakistan’s position in global parliamentary diplomacy, facilitating inter-parliamentary relations, regional cooperation, and diplomatic advancements.
Chairman Gilani emphasized the role of the ISC as more than just a forum—it is a platform for global policymakers to address contemporary challenges collaboratively.
His address at the Kuala Lumpur briefing session highlighted the importance of tackling climate change, economic inequality, technological disruptions, and geopolitical tensions through legislative cooperation.
“The ISC is a visionary initiative built on principles of interdependence, mutual prosperity, and universally shared values,” he stated, emphasizing that parliamentary leaders must work collectively to address pressing global issues.
During his visit, Chairman Gilani engaged in high-level discussions with H.E. Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr) Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia and President of ASEAN.
The meeting reaffirmed the deep-rooted Pakistan-Malaysia ties and underscored the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations.
Although, The Malaysian Speaker praised Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and parliamentary cooperation. Both leaders agreed to enhance legislative exchanges and committee collaborations for mutual benefit.
However, The meeting was followed by a formal dinner in honor of Chairman Gilani, further cementing diplomatic and parliamentary bonds between the two nations.
Accompanying Chairman Gilani was a distinguished delegation of senior parliamentarians and international representatives, including H.E. Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr) Johari bin Abdul, Hon. Chung Woo Lee (ISC Co-Chair), Hon. Dr. Charles S. Yang (Chair of UPF International), Hon. Ek Nath Dhakal (ISC Co-Chair, Nepal), and several prominent figures from Malaysia and Pakistan.
As the Founding Chairman of ISC, Chairman Gilani reaffirmed his commitment to translating shared parliamentary ideals into actionable policies for global peace and sustainable development.
