The Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology (IT) and Telecommunications has expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of service provided by telecom company Jazz. The committee raised concerns during a session chaired by Senator Palwasha Khan at the Parliament House, highlighting that Jazz has charged customers over PKR 6 billion in additional fees.

Committee Chairman inquired whether Jazz provides a quality service corresponding to its increased tariffs. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman admitted that Jazz has ongoing issues with service quality, especially on highways, where only 2G service is often available. PTA officials emphasized that all tariff increases by Jazz undergo prior regulatory approval, with 19% tariffs raised in 2024 alone.

Senators also criticized Ufone’s financial losses and delayed merger with Telenor. The committee discussed ongoing spectrum-related court cases, revealing confusion about ownership of Sun TV in certain legal proceedings. Additionally, e-commerce taxation and mobile service availability across Islamabad were discussed, with calls for further review by the Federal Board of Revenue and telecom authorities.
