The Senate took a step towards restricting obscene content on TikTok: it is trying to pass a new law that will help it block such material, as more people are becoming worried about vulgarity and indecency in live broadcasts. Law-makers pointed to the fact that TikTok Live sessions are being disproportionately impacting the students and youth and putting Islamic, cultural and moral values of the society at risk.

In the official announcement it was emphasized that TikTok live became a significant cause of immoral tendencies as the participants openly behave in an objectionable way. The senators indicated that the issue requires urgent intervention by the government in protection of our younger generations. They stated that harsh punishment should be imposed on those who create or broadcast such content.

In addition, the notice required Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and other organizations to develop a highly sophisticated monitoring system that can be used to immediately stop indecent live sessions. Simultaneously it called to publicize positive, value-based content that follows the religious and social principles.

Senator Atta-ur-Rehman who is the Chairman of Standing Committee on religious affairs together with senator Atta-ul-Haq said they will drive this agenda forth in the parliament. Both senators have indicated that they should carry out their national and religious duty of coming up with effective legislation on digital obscenity.

The Senate undertakes to make the Tik Tok environment less prevalent with obscene contents by establishing new laws to save the moral fabric of the society and to make the online world safe for children and adolescents.
