Peshawar, July 21, 2025: Voting for the 11 Senate seats election from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province concluded on Monday, with unofficial results showing a split between the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and opposition parties, exacerbated by internal party disagreements.

The PTI, which controls KP provincial government, won six seats, including four general seats, one technocrat seat, and one women’s reserved seat.

Meanwhile, the opposition secured five seats, comprising three general seats, one technocrat seat, and one women’s seat.

PTI’s successful candidates

Among the successful candidates from the PTI were Murad Saeed, who received 26 votes, surpassing expectations; along with Faisal Javed, Mirza Afridi, and Noor-ul-Haq Qadri.

For the technocrat seats, Azam Khan Swati won 89 votes.

In the women’s category, Rubina Naz was declared winner with 89 votes.

Opposition Seats

On the opposition side, PML-N’s Niaz Amir Muqam, JUI-F’s Maulana Atta-ul-Haq Darwaish, and PPP’s Talha Mehmood secured general seats with vote counts reportedly ranging between 17 and 18.

JUI-F’ Dilawar Khan won the technocrat seat with 54 votes, and Rubina Khalid won the women’s seat with 52 votes.

Political Dissents

The election commission said that 25 candidates contested the seats, but several, including the dissenting PTI members, withdrew before polling.

Despite internal disagreements, some PTI candidates remained in the race, notably Khurram Zeehshan, who refused to withdraw.

Polling timings

Polling for the KP Senate election was conducted at the Jirga Hall of the KP Assembly from 11 am until 5:30 pm. All 145 assembly members participated.

The Election Commission banned media coverage inside the assembly. Many journalists protested outside the provincial assembly.
