Islamabad, Feb 6: Authorities have officially renamed the Serena Chowk Interchange to Islamabad Jinnah Square, a move that serves to honor the legacy of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Pakistan’s Father of the Nation. Along with the renaming, a statue of Jinnah has been installed at the site, further cementing his presence in the nation’s capital.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated Jinnah Square two days ago, marking the completion of the road project. The new interchange features three underpasses, with one already open for traffic. The project has been designed to alleviate traffic congestion and improve the flow of vehicles in the area, which is a central hub in Islamabad.
In the final stages of preparation, workers have been putting finishing touches on the connecting roads to ensure a smooth transition for commuters. The interchange has been adorned with bright lights, fresh flowers, and trees, providing a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for the ceremony and adding to the aesthetic appeal of the area.
This is not the first time that the current government has made headlines with early inaugurations. Several road projects, including Rawal Chowk, Jinnah Avenue, and Serena Chowk, have been inaugurated months sometimes up to 18 months before their actual completion. While these early unveilings have generated some controversy regarding the timeline of the projects, they have also been part of the government’s efforts to showcase development progress in the capital.
