Salman Butt has criticized Pakistan’s team management for their decision to include Shadab Khan in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad despite his limited bowling form leading up to the tournament.
Butt expressed frustration after Pakistan’s early exit, highlighting that Shadab Khan had only bowled four overs in two matches before the World Cup.
Butt accused the management of lacking common sense and ignoring more deserving leg-spinners like Usman Qadir and Usama Mir, who have shown strong performances in domestic cricket.
He emphasized the importance of using specialist bowlers in T20 cricket, citing examples such as Kuldeep Yadav, Adam Zampa, Adil Rashid, Keshav Maharaj, and Tabraiz Shamsi, who are known for their match-winning abilities with the ball despite not contributing much with the bat.
Butt’s criticism centered on what he perceives as a tendency in Pakistan cricket to favor ‘all-rounders’ or ‘package players’ over specialists, which he believes undermines the team’s performance in crucial tournaments like the T20 World Cup.
His remarks reflect broader concerns about strategic decision-making and player selection in Pakistan cricket.
