Islamabad, July 18, 2025: Star all-rounder Shahid Afridi is optimistic that Pakistan Champions have what it takes to clinch the title in the upcoming World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025, as the second edition of the competition gets underway on July 18 at Edgbaston.

Pakistan Champions, who secured the runner-up position in the debut edition, will start their 2025 journey against England Champions in the tournament’s opening match on Friday.

This year, Mohammad Hafeez steps in as captain, taking over from Younis Khan, who guided the team to the final in the previous edition.

While talking to a local sports network during a practice session at Edgbaston, Shahid Afridi praised the team’s strength and balance, sharing his positive outlook on their campaign this year.

“We have a wonderful squad again, a very strong combination. We had a good first season, but this year we are hopeful of winning the tournament,” Afridi said.

He also appreciated the involvement of younger talent and the concept of rotating the captaincy among past legends.

“This time, there’s more young blood, and a new captain is at the helm. Younis Khan did a great job last year, and now Hafeez will be leading the side,” he added.

The much-anticipated Pakistan vs India encounter is scheduled for July 20, also at Edgbaston. Shahid Afridi acknowledged that the iconic rivalry remains the centerpiece of the tournament.

“Every match is important, but Pakistan vs India always carries that special energy. I’m hopeful more fans will flock to the stadiums to watch us in action,” he said.
