Islamabad, Dec 1: Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister of State for IT and Telecoms, promised on Sunday to improve the nation’s internet infrastructure, restoring fast internet speeds and strengthening the telecom industry’s infrastructure.
“Every effort is being made by my ministry to guarantee the industry’s smooth continuation. We are on high alert due to the recent spike in cyberattacks, and we are acting quickly and decisively to resolve these issues and strengthen our digital defenses,” she stated in an interview with a private television channel.
Additionally, Shaza Fatima Khawaja reiterated the government’s dedication to safeguarding the telecom and IT sectors, stating that it is a major priority. In order to accomplish this goal, the government is modernizing current systems and concentrating on important areas, such as increasing tower intensity, expanding broadband internet access, and addressing urgent cybersecurity issues to improve coverage, spur economic growth, and guarantee a safe online environment for citizens, she continued.
In response to a question, the minister stated that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will be given instructions by the Ministry of Interior to look into and fix problems that people encounter when sending videos while making sure that the overall 100% internet speed is unaffected.
The minister disclosed that the Interior Minister contacts the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for support in the event of any problems. Although she agreed that there are difficulties, she gave her word that the administration is making every effort to resolve them.
She underlined that everyone has the right to voice their thoughts and that even while digital platforms offer a wealth of chances for self-expression, citizens’ freedom of speech is not restricted by their temporary unavailability.
The government is actively updating its online management system, with an emphasis on strengthening cybersecurity measures to effectively counter and control cyberattacks and terrorist operations, the minister said in response to another question.
Additionally, the minister declared that by April, the government intends to roll out 4G and 5G internet services throughout Pakistan.The Minister claims that over the previous four months, Pakistan’s export and IT industries have grown remarkably, with a noteworthy 40% increase.
