A citywide operation is underway in Islamabad as authorities intensify efforts to shut down illegal indoor sheesha cafes, many of which have been operating in open defiance of judicial instructions.

The district administration has confirmed that seven sheesha cafes were sealed in the capital’s upscale neighbourhoods of F-6, F-7, and E-7 as part of the latest enforcement campaign.

In addition, at least seven individuals were taken into custody during the raids, as authorities moved swiftly to ensure compliance with legal directives.

Officials reported that the crackdown comes in response to clear court orders banning indoor sheesha use due to health and legal concerns. Despite repeated warnings, several businesses continued to operate behind closed doors.

High-Profile Establishment Among Those Closed

One of the city’s more prominent indoor cafes, located in Sector E-7, was among those targeted. The lounge was sealed by the Assistant Commissioner (City) after it was found to be in violation of standing court orders.

Authorities noted that the establishment had continued operations despite explicit legal warnings, prompting decisive action.

The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad issued a firm statement, asserting that any government officials or area representatives found negligent in preventing such activities would face accountability measures.

He reiterated the administration’s zero-tolerance stance toward those ignoring the judiciary’s directions.

Ongoing Operation Across the Capital

In a wider directive, the Deputy Commissioner instructed law enforcement and administrative officials to extend the crackdown to all sectors of Islamabad.

The goal, he said, was to ensure that no café or lounge continues sheesha service indoors in violation of court rulings.

The operation is part of broader public health and legal enforcement measures aimed at curbing the unregulated use of tobacco-related products in public venues. Authorities have warned that the campaign will continue until full compliance is achieved throughout the city.
