Islamabad, Dec 9: Sherfane Rutherford’s blistering maiden century secured a five-wicket win for the West Indies over Bangladesh in the first ODI at Warner Park.
The 26-year-old scored an unbeaten 113 off 80 balls, including seven fours and eight sixes, guiding his team to chase down Bangladesh’s 294-6 with ease.
Rutherford’s innings featured a 99-run partnership with skipper Shai Hope, who contributed 86 off 88 balls, and a match-winning 95-run stand with Justin Greaves (41*).
Despite Bangladesh’s solid start with Tanzid Hasan’s 60 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s 74, along with Mahmudullah’s unbeaten 50, their efforts fell short against Rutherford’s brilliance.
The match organizers named Rutherford the player of the match, and Hope praised his improved consistency and ability to deliver under pressure.
The West Indies now lead the series 1-0.
