Islamabad, Feb 9: Senator Sherry Rehman, the Parliamentary Leader of the PPP in the Senate and Chair of the Climate and Environment Caucus, has called for a unified approach at both national and provincial levels to tackle the growing challenges posed by climate change. Speaking at the 16th Karachi Literature Festival’s session on “Creating Resilience through Climate Change Education,” Rehman underscored the urgent need for a comprehensive response that combines local and global strategies.
Reflecting on the devastating floods that affected 33 million people and submerged a third of Pakistan, Rehman urged the implementation of effective solutions to reduce the frequency and impact of such catastrophic events. She highlighted the severity of the climate crisis, noting how rising temperatures and changing weather patterns are severely affecting both rural and urban areas across the country.

Rehman also emphasized the critical role of youth in climate action, encouraging young people to drive efforts aimed at mitigating climate change and building resilience. Recognizing their potential as future leaders, she stressed that empowering the younger generation with the right knowledge and tools is essential for the country to adapt to and overcome the climate challenges ahead.
She called for strategic interventions to support vulnerable communities, particularly those who are disproportionately affected by the changing climate, such as farmers, low-income families, and those living in flood-prone areas. Rehman’s comments reinforced the need for collaborative action to tackle climate change, urging policymakers to prioritize climate education and sustainable development to safeguard the nation’s future.
