Islamabad, Aug 24: On Saturday, Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan said goodbye to both domestic and international cricket. He spent fourteen years serving his nation.
The 38-year-old cricket player stated, “I only had one dream and that was to play for India, and I even achieved that,” in a video message that was posted on social media.
“I’m departing with a calm heart, having played for India for a very long time. I’ve convinced myself to be happy that I represented India in the game rather than be unhappy that I won’t be playing for them anymore.
His highest performance was in the 50-over format, where he averaged 44.11 and scored 6793 runs. He completed 2315 Test runs at an average of 40.61.
Under MS Dhoni’s leadership, Dhawan was also a member of the national team that won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. With 1162 runs in 26 One-Day Internationals in 2013 at an average of 50.52 and a strike rate of 97.89, Dhawan’s career reached new heights.
