Female teachers in Sialkot will soon receive electric bikes to help with their daily travel needs. The initiative is being launched with the support of the local business community, according to Deputy Commissioner Saba Asghar Ali.

The program is part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s plan to provide safer and more convenient transport for women educators. Applications were opened earlier this month, and more than 650 teachers applied before the August 10 deadline.

To qualify, applicants had to be under 35 years of age. Both permanent and contract teachers could apply, while widows, divorced women, and women who are the only breadwinners in their homes were given priority.

The distribution of the e-bikes will be done through a computerized ballot to ensure fairness. Earlier, on Independence Day, the district administration had already handed over 14 electric bikes to female teachers with help from donors.

Officials say this project will not only make daily commuting easier for women but also help cut environmental pollution by promoting the use of clean energy vehicles.
