Islamabad, Nov 11: SIFC Proposes High-Rise Buildings to Replace Government Housing in Islamabad, A Vision for Urban Transformation. The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) aims to replace the existing single-storey government residences in Islamabad with high-rise structures to generate significant revenue.
They have identified specific areas like sectors F-6, G-6, and G-7, where extensive state-owned land is currently occupied by single-storey homes allotted to federal secretaries and other officials, according to a report by Dawn.
A recent analysis conducted by the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) found that in the G-6/1 sub-sector, 86 acres are being underutilized for government housing. Transitioning to vertical construction could reduce the area needed to just nine acres and release over Rs. 52 billion. Based on this study, the SIFC has recently sent a formal communication to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) requesting feedback on the initiative.
In its correspondence, the SIFC encouraged a move towards vertical development, akin to strategies employed in the UK and India, to tap into the economic potential of underused urban land.
The CDA’s reply is anticipated to shape the next steps in this proposal. The SIFC seeks to promote high-rise property development within the federal capital in accordance with global urban planning standards.
